During the retention phase patients are required to take on responsibility for wearing his or her retainer daily. The retention phase usually lasts approximately one year and retainers must be worn at least 22 hours a day. In order to achieve a long lasting straight smile, it is imperative to wear your retainer for as long as your doctor recommends.
